Grimsby Town Foundation is excited to announce the renewal of the Grimsby Town Shadow Scholarship in partnership with Franklin Sixth Form College.
The Shadow Scholarship has been running since 2016 and provides a unique opportunity for aspiring footballers in the local and surrounding areas to receive elite football training while studying for a Level 3 Sports qualification.
The scholarship is designed for people aged 16-19 who aspire to build a career in football or sports-related fields, providing a solid foundation for both their sporting and academic futures.
The Grimsby Town U19 Shadow Scholarship is based at Franklin Sixth Form College and Blundell Park, the iconic home of Grimsby Town Football Club. Participants will benefit from expert coaching, world-class facilities, and a structured academic programme that supports both personal and professional development.
Coaches Scott Drury and Mark Westerby have been at the helm of this programme, guiding the teams to numerous victories and ensuring that players are well-equipped for a successful future in sport.
In September 2024, Grimsby Town Foundation expanded its scholarship offerings to include a dedicated programme for female players.
This has been designed as a flexible programme, combining a mixed level 3 programme at Franklin with professional training and competition in the EFL Football League.
On the expansion of the scholarship to now include aspiring female footballers, BTEC Tutor Scott Drury said, “The success of the Lionesses and the growing popularity of women’s football has inspired us to create this pathway for young female players.
“We’re excited to develop the programme further, mirroring the success of our male counterparts.”
On renewing the partnership, Foundation Community Director Mike Thompson said, “I am thrilled to see the renewal of the partnership between Grimsby Town Foundation and Franklin College, as we continue to inspire and empower the next generation of sports coaches through the BTEC Sports Coaching program.
“This collaboration marks a new chapter of growth, opportunity, and excellence, and I look forward to the positive impact it will have on our students and the community.”
