On Saturday 19th October, Grimsby Town Foundation invited our Priority School Partners old and new to attend a match day hospitality event before the Grimsby Town game against Walsall.
We wanted to welcome our Priority Partner Schools on board for the upcoming academic year and here at Grimsby Town Foundation, we are committed to working closely with these identified Primary Schools in the area using our Premier League Primary Stars programme.
To celebrate this partnership, we hosted members of school staff as our hospitality guests at the game against Walsall on Saturday 19th October at Blundell Park. We enjoyed meeting all the representatives from:
St Mary’s Catholic School
Phoenix House
Ormiston South Parade
William Barcroft
After enjoying their Fish and Chip dinner, the schools that have already signed up as Priority Partner Schools were awarded their recognition certificates and GTFC supporters scarves and given the opportunity to meet other Priority School Partners.
Our Primary School Delivery Manager Ellie Kirk and our Director of Community Mike Thompson were on hand to answer any questions about the programme but also hear all about how the first term has gone for those already accessing our support.
Our Priority school partners have all been selected based upon several key indicators.
Proximity
The school’s proximity to the Foundation and Football Club is important to us, because we want to be able to support and impact the communities that live on the doorstep to our Football Club.
Level of Free School Meals
The national average for Free School Meals in schools is 24.6%, but in Grimsby and Cleethorpes we have identified within a 2 mile radius of Blundell Park, 8 Primary schools with above 40%.
Expanding that to 4 miles and there are a further 8 schools with higher than 40% Free School Meals.
Ofsted Ratings
We have also looked at the school’s Ofsted ratings, with feedback identifying areas of development such as attainment in Maths and English.
Our Priority Schools are all schools that want to collaborate with us to deliver child-centered provision that is reactive to the needs of the pupils and the whole school.
These schools have similar complementary aspirations to the Foundation, as we aim to Inspire, Engage and Include all people in our community in healthy, active lifestyles.
As a Priority School, these schools will benefit from the expertise of our coaches, who will work alongside their staff to engage pupils in interventions for Maths, English, and PSHE, using football-focused interventions, giving girls access to extra-curricular football sessions, supporting whole school sports events, all while ensuring that High Quality PE is embedded into their school’s curriculum.
We believe in the power of football and sports to inspire young minds, and we are excited to make a positive impact on all pupils’ learning journeys in our Priority Schools.
