PREMIER LEAGUE KICKS CUP

Last month, Grimsby Town Foundation were lucky enough to take a group of children from Oasis Academy, Immingham to the Premier League Kicks Cup final at St George’s Park.

The PL Kicks Cup is an annual event that is part of the Premier League Kicks program, which is a youth engagement initiative aimed at using the power of football to inspire and engage young people from disadvantaged communities.

To get to the national finals at St Georges Park, Grimsby took part in a regional competition and got through on fair play by showing respect to officials and other teams which was hosted by Sheffield and Rotherham.

The Premier League Kicks cup had teams from all over the nation arrive at the home of English football who also got through their respective regional competition. The morning saw the teams take part in Competitive matches to see what position they would be playing for in the afternoon.

Grimsby progressed to the semi-finals where they faced Sheffield United, beating them on penalties. They then took part in a 9th and 10th play-off position, in which they lost 2-1 to Stoke City.

These results meant Grimsby came a respective 10th out of 25 teams in the National Finals of the Premier League Kicks Cup.

On the event, the Foundation’s Premier League Kicks Lead, Mikey Pickett, said “This was such a great experience for all involved and possibly a once in a lifetime for many participants who came with us, I am sure they will cherish playing at St Georges Park for many years to come.”
