On Monday, Grimsby Town Foundation took participants from our Premier League Kicks sessions at Oasis Academy, Immingham, to take part in the regional qualifiers of the Premier League Kicks Cup.

The event was hosted by Bradford City FC Community Foundation and saw over 200 participants come together to compete.

There was also a visit from the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service, who delivered educational workshops for all attendees, focusing on the realities of prison life and criminal behaviour.

The Premier League Kicks Cup tournaments are one of the competition elements of the Premier League Kicks programme and the programme uses the power of football and sport to inspire young people to reach their potential, in some of the most high-need areas of England and Wales.

The Foundation team got some incredible results, including 4-0 wins over Hull City and Sunderland and progressed to the quarter-finals, where they lost 3-1 to Sheffield United on penalties, after looking the stronger side for much of the game.

On the event, Premier League Kicks Coordinator Mikey Pickett said, “The team did so well on the pitch and were unlucky not to progress further in the tournament.

“They represented Grimsby Town brilliantly and gave 100% throughout.”
