World Book Day 2026

Today, Grimsby Town Foundation celebrated World Book Day by delivering more than 1,500 free books to Premier League Primary Stars priority partner schools across the area.

The giveaway, supported by the World Book Day Charity and the National Year of Reading initiative, forms part of the Premier League’s partnership with the National Literacy Trust to promote literacy through the Premier League Primary Stars programme.

Helping deliver the books were Mighty Mariner, alongside Cam Gardner and Maldini Kacurri from Grimsby Town F.C.’s first team. Their visits created a fantastic buzz in each school and helped make the day even more memorable for pupils.

As well as receiving their books, pupils from each school had the opportunity to read short previews from their favourite stories to the Mighty Mariner and the visiting players, helping to build confidence and celebrate their love of reading.

Each participating school also received a number of World Book Day vouchers to distribute to pupils. These vouchers were given as rewards for children who have made strong progress with their reading, encouraging continued enthusiasm for books and storytelling.

The day proved to be a fantastic celebration of reading, with pupils excited to receive their new books and proud to share their reading with the club’s special guests. Initiatives like this highlight the positive impact that sport and education can have when working together to support young people.

The Grimsby Town Foundation would like to say a huge thank you to all of our Priority Partner schools for their continued support in helping inspire the next generation of readers.

Together, we look forward to continuing to promote literacy and a love of reading through our work with Premier League Primary Stars.
