Last Monday, Grimsby Town Foundation hosted the area final for the U11 Utilita Kids Cup between Signhills Academy and New Waltham Academy at Clee Fields.

The Utilita Kids Cup is an EFL-run competition that gives Club Charity Organisations the opportunity to participate in competitions aimed at school children up and down the country.

The competition is designed to create stronger, healthier and more active communities and is a great opportunity for Club Charity Organisations like ourselves to build and develop links with schools In the local community.

It’s also a fantastic way for us to be able to promote the work we do in the community as well as our holiday activities aimed at school children.

The seven-a-side competition begins with local schools taking part in a competition, before winners progress to regionalised events followed by a chance to play on the hallowed Turf of Wembley in the final next year.

The game between Signhills and New Waltham Academy at Clee Fields was a showcase of the talent that we have here in Grimsby and Cleethorpes in this age group.

Signhills managed to come away with a 3-0 win, meaning they will progress through to the next stage where they will represent Grimsby Town.

On the importance of having these competitions in schools, our Primary Schools Delivery Manager Ellie Kirk said, “The Utilita Kids Cup is a great opportunity for our local Primary Schools to engage in a club competition that leads to an opportunity to progress and represent Grimsby Town in the regional phase and possibly the national phase.

“It’s great for these pupils to be a part of such a large competition and give them something to aspire to, following in the footsteps of players such as Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich and Germany) and Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace and England).”

We wish Signhills good luck in the next phase of the competition and look forward to seeing how far this team can go!
