Grimsby Town Foundation is delighted to announce the launch of a new Premier League Kicks’ session ‘Our Zone’ in partnership with YMCA Humber, starting from next Tuesday 24th September.

The sessions will be held at YMCA Humber, Kent Street and will run from 4-6pm and is aimed at girls aged 11-16.

‘Our Zone’ will offer a relaxed and welcoming environment just for girls and will include free coaching across multiple sports activities, including netball, football, dodgeball, rounders and basketball.

According to this girl can, a nationwide campaign backed by Sport England, with the objective of getting Women and girls moving, regardless of shape, size and ability.

40% of women aged 16 and over are not active enough to get the full health benefits of sport and physical activity, compared to 35% of men.

Our Premier League Kicks programme will be looking to increase female participation in sport , giving them access to regular opportunities to develop skills and confidence and progress within sport as a player, coach or official or build a lifelong positive experience of taking part in any form of regular physical activity.

As well as the sporting aspect, an hour of the session will be dedicated to wellbeing workshops, delivered by YMCA Humber’s Health and Wellbeing Officer, Sarah Howden.

The sessions are completely FREE and just require a parent or guardian to fill in a consent form which can be accessed below:

On the launch of these new sessions, Foundation coach Ellie Kirk said, “Here at Grimsby Town Foundation, we are committed to developing our Premier League Kicks provision in the area and engaging with more girls.”

“We want to give them opportunities to take part in sessions that they feel included and welcome in.

“We already have a strong and well-developed boys’ programme in the area, however with the support from YMCA Humber and the Premier League, we have been able to start this FREE girl’s only multi-sport session.

On the launch of the new PL Kicks session in partnership with the Foundation, YMCA’s Sarah Howden said, “At the YMCA we are passionate about creating a safe, non-judgemental environment for the young people of our area to discover who they want to be.”

“We are hoping that a girls only session will give girls a space to build their confidence and get support if they need it.

“We are looking forward to working with Grimsby Town Foundation and hoping their PL Kicks provision will give the girls the opportunity to get involved and engage in a range of sports.”

We look forward to seeing many of you there next Tuesday!
