Grimsby Town Foundation is delighted to announce the appointment of Mike Thompson as the new Community Director.

Mike joins us from the University of Hull, where he was Student Start Up Director. Having worked in the charitable/non-profit sector for the last 15 years, Mike has held management and leadership roles at some of the region’s most well-known charities, including the Hull Youth Trust and Hull KR Education and Sports Trust.

Having sat on the leadership team at The Smile Foundation (Hull and East Yorkshire’s Infrastructure Organisation for the 3rd Sector) Mike has a network that reaches all aspects of charity, community support work as well as national fundraising portfolios.

The Foundation’s mission is to inspire, engage and include everyone in our community to lead more active, healthier, and happier lives and works strategically to achieve those outcomes.

On being appointed new Community Director, Mike said, “I am delighted to be joining the Foundation at such an exciting time in its development. Meeting board members of the Foundation and the Chief Executive of the football club it’s clear that there is a real desire to work in collaboration to benefit the local community.”

“I am really looking forward to meeting the team that is responsible for all the fantastic work that is being carried out and work on our future plans to make sure the Grimsby Town Foundation is and always will be a pillar supporting the community.”

On Mike coming to the Foundation, Club CEO Polly Bancroft said, “We’re delighted to have Mike Thompson on board as our Community Director.”

“The work of our Foundation requires honesty, integrity and a sense of direction and purpose that inspires, empowers, and supports staff and Mike has these qualities and experiences.

“He’ll be an advocate and ambassador for all Grimsby Town Foundation’s work in a way that builds reputation, credibility, and visibility. We’re looking forward to him further connecting the Club to the local community by delivering programmes that have a meaningful impact.

“I’d like to thank Mike Baker for guiding the Foundation’s ship for an interim period. Mike has brought a steady pair of hands to the role blended with a huge amount of passion and enthusiasm for the Club and community. We look forward to our continual work with Mike as he maintains his role on the Foundation’s board.”

Welcome on board, Mike!
