Grimsby Town Ability Counts Team in County Cup Action

Grimsby Town Ability Counts Football Club are in action in the Lincolnshire FA Disability County Cup this Sunday the 23rd of February.

2025 sees the return of the Disability County Cup in Lincolnshire for the second year running following its introduction last year and this season the competition will see the addition of a Plate competition to run alongside the Cup competition with over 20 teams from all over Lincolnshire competing.

Sundays event, which will be held at Cherry Wilingham in Lincoln, will see all participating teams play each other in their respectively drawn groups, with the top two teams from each of the groups progressing to the Finals Day, which will be held in April.

This season will see the Foundation’s Premiership and Championship squads playing in the Cup competition, whilst our League 1 and 2 squads will be playing in the Plate competition.

Last season, our Premiership side made it to the finals event held at Sleaford Town where they lost in the semi-final against Lincoln Invictus who went on to win the Cup.

Our Premiership side did however, win the 3rd/4th playoff game.

On the County Cup, Head of Inclusion at the Foundation and GTACFC Head Coach Jason Land Said, “This is our FA cup and it really does have a special feel about it.

“This season’s addition of the Plate competition has made the County Cup more accessible for more teams and is a real showcase of disability football for the county”.

GTACFC coach Mikey Pickett added, “Participating in the County Cup will give players an invaluable opportunity to develop their skills, build confidence, and experience the excitement of competitive football and hopefully the opportunity to win some silverware.”

On the ocassion, GTACFC Leage 2 squad player Harry Goodwin said “Its brilliant and to be representing our local team means a lot. It’s a privilege and I’m eager to make the team proud’.
