Friendship at Home are the chosen charity for tomorrow’s game against Notts County as part of our ‘Beyond the Pitch’ mental health initiative supported by the Premier League Fans Fund.

Friendship at Home are a local volunteer-based charity that offers friendship and support to older people, covering the whole of North East Lincolnshire.

The charity was founded in 2006 and were initially funded by a legacy left to Help the Aged, when a senior member spent the day with the local Handy Van and witnessed first-hand the loneliness and isolation that older people faced on a daily basis and wanted to make a commitment to help.

Friendship at Home offer a variety of services for people over the age of 60 which include befriending, social clubs and activities, exercise groups, dementia support and advice, information and signposting and much more.

Their weekly social clubs and activities give older people a place to meet and have a chat over a cup of tea, building friendships that often continue outside of the clubs, with members saying that it gives them a purpose and something to look forward to during the week.

For those receiving our befriending service, having a regular visit from a volunteer helps them to feel valued and cared for, which in turn increases their self-esteem and confidence and lessens their feelings of loneliness and isolation.

Through the support of their services, Friendship at Home can help people regain their confidence and independence so that they can once more become a vital part of their community.

For further information on any of their services they can be contacted on 01472 602500 or email admin@friendshipathome.org.uk or visit their website at www.friendshipathome.org.uk
