This Sunday, Grimsby Town Ability Counts’ Premiership squad are in action in the Lincolnshire FA Disability County Cup Finals Event at Bottesford Town.

The Premiership squad will take on Barton Inclusive FC in the semi-final to book a spot in the final, with the other semi-final consisting of two Lincoln Invictus teams.

Last month, our Premiership and Championship squads took part in the qualification event for the County Cup. Our Premiership squad topped their group to qualify for Sunday’s event and our Championship squad just missed out on goal difference.

Last season, our Premiership team made it to the semi-final but lost to Lincoln Invictus who went on to lift the cup.

Our Premiership squad are in good form at present; sitting top of the Lincolnshire Ability Counts Premiership league.

Looking ahead to Sunday, Head of Inclusion and Premiership squad Manager Jason Land said, “With the first ever Lincolnshire FA Disability County Cup taking place last season, it’s great to see the competition growing and evolving now with the addition of the Plate as well.

“This is such a fantastic opportunity for more disability teams in Lincolnshire to be involved and both the Cup and Plate competitions are a fantastic showcase for disability in our county.”

He also added, “Last season’s County Cup was a brand-new experience for the lads and a large percentage of the team had never played in that kind of environment before.

“Playing at a stadium and experiencing that walk out of the tunnel, a crowd, and even having video cameras pointed in their direction was overwhelming for some of the team, but after experiencing that and building up their resilience, I believe we are in a much better position this year.”

“With us finishing third last year, we are hoping to build on that and our experiences to hopefully go one step further on Sunday and lift the title.”

“We have a great bunch of lads in our team who are a pleasure to coach on a weekly basis, and with us topping the group in the qualification event and playing some great football in the league, they have put themself in a great position.”
