Franklin College will be hosting an open evening for our GTFC Shadow Scholarship on the 15th October. Delivered by Grimsby Town Foundation in partnership with Franklin Sixth Form College, the Grimsby Town U19 Shadow Scholarship gives talented young players the chance to combine a high-level football experience with a full-time education, preparing you for a future in the professional game or wider sports industry.
The Grimsby Town U19 Shadow Scholarship is designed for talented 16-18-year-olds who want to develop both on and off the pitch. Based at Blundell Park and Franklin College, scholars benefit from a professional football environment supported by a structured education programme that leads to a Level 3 BTEC in Sport.
Through our dual focus on player development and academic achievement, you’ll gain the skills, knowledge and experience needed to progress into professional football, university study, or a career in the sports and fitness industry.
What to Expect
As part of the Grimsby Town Foundation Shadow Scholarship, you will:
- Train three times per week with our UEFA-qualified coaching team, focusing on technical ability, tactical awareness, and strength and conditioning.
- Represent Grimsby Town in the EFL Community & Education Football Alliance (CEFA), facing other professional club shadow squads from across the country.
- Study for a Level 3 BTEC in Sport at Franklin Sixth Form College, covering key areas such as anatomy and physiology, fitness training and programming, sports leadership, coaching, and professional development.
Girls U19 Shadow Scholarship
In 2024, Franklin College launched the GTFC Girls U19 Shadow Scholarship, creating a dedicated pathway for talented young female players to represent the Grimsby Town Women’s side.
The programme includes:
- Elite coaching from Foundation staff

- A tailored academic study programme through Franklin Sixth Form College
Girls on the programme will train up to four times per week, compete in regional leagues and national tournaments, and study for a qualification that supports their future ambitions – whether in sport, coaching, or higher education.
