This Thursday, Grimsby Town Foundation are hosting the EFL U13 Utilita Girls Cup final at Clee Fields.
The Utilita Girls Cup is a sister competition of the Utilita Kids Cup ran by the EFL and is one of the biggest football competitions for primary schools in the country.
The seven-a-side competition begins with local schools taking part in a competition, before winners progress to regionalised events followed by a chance to play on the hallowed Turf of Wembley in the final next year.
The competition is designed to create stronger, healthier and more active communities and is a great opportunity for Club Charity Organisations like us to build and develop links with schools In the local community.
It’s also a fantastic way for us to be able to promote the work we do in the community, including the Girl’s Emerging Talent Centre launched back in January.
It fosters boosts in confidence, engages girls to participate in team sport and encourages them to strive for the once-ina-lifetime opportunity to play on the hallowed turf of Wembley.
The rising popularity of the Women’s Super League (WSL) and success of the England Women’s National Team ensures that young girls have visible role models for the next generation aspiring to emulate their heroes and dream of one day playing on the world stage.
Last year we took a group of pupils from John Whitgift Academy to the local final at the Eco Power Stadium in Doncaster and the girls came 6th overall.
On hosting the event, the Foundations’s Primary School Delivery Manager Ellie Kirk said, “Grimsby Town Foundation are proud to host this year’s EFL Utilita Girls Cup. This competition gives the girls a great opportunity to showcase their skills in a competitive football competition whilst striving for a once in a lifetime opportunity to play on the hallowed turf of Wembley.
“This is part of the work we do at the Foundation to provide additional opportunities to our community to aid with engagement in healthy activities, alongside sharing of the other events and activities that we can offer the girls in the area.”
