PREMIER LEAGUE PRIMARY STARS COACHES DEVELOPMENT DAY

A large group of people, many wearing sportswear, gather on a grassy sports field surrounded by trees under a partly cloudy sky.

Grimsby Town Foundation coaches were invited down to attend a Premier League Primary Stars Coaches Development Day in Sheffield on Wednesday.

Our Primary Schools Delivery manager Ellie Kirk and Sports and Education coach Libby Durkin joined more than 140 coaches at one of three Premier League Primary Stars Coaches Developments days, delivered by the Premier League Charitable Fund alongside the FA PE team.

The Premier League Charitable Fund and FA PE Team joined forces to provide three regional one-day events that were designed to develop knowledge around the purpose of Key Performance Indicators, as well as give clarity on the Premier League Charitable Fund’s planning and delivery expectations to ensure teachers receive consistently high-quality support when engaging with Club Charity Organisations (CCO’s).

Designed to support professional development and Swindon Town Community Foundation, Wolves Foundation and Sheffield United Community Foundation, the Premier League Primary Stars Coaches Development Day offered coaches the chance to increase their own confidence in session delivery while learning practical skills to support PE Lessons in primary schools.

Alongside skills sessions, workshops and lectures, Ellie and Libby joined colleagues from more than 85 professional football club charities to explore further opportunities to use the power of football to help children be active and develop essential skills.

Ellie and Libby engaged in both theory practical-based workshops, which have been designed to support coaches to build effective relationships with primary school teachers and equip coaches with the understanding around how to create tailored and bespoke provision of support around inclusive, progressive and fun for all PE designed to meet the PE national curriculum.

On how the event went, Libby said, “Wednesday’s development day was an eye-opening experience, seeing how other clubs deliver the PLPS programme and comparing ideas was really useful for us going forward.”

“We feel motivated and excited to deliver these schemes within schools. We are honoured to have been able to work with the FA PE Teaching team to further develop our knowledge.”
