As we approach the first half-term of 2025 and the first football camps of the year at Grimsby Town Foundation, we wanted to take a look back at last year’s camps and the difference they made in the community.
In February, we welcomed over 250 participants across our half-term courses.
One of the takeaways from these courses was how quickly the girls’ only days sold out. We had only launched the area’s first ever girls’ Emerging Talent Centre a month before, so we believe that played a crucial part in the demand for a girls-only course to be made available.
We had visits from Grimsby Town Women First Team players Lily Jacklin, Olivia Kershaw and Harriet Dalton who spoke about the rise of the game for females and how important these football camps are for young aspiring footballers.
A couple of months later, we had 170 young children take part in our Easter camps in Grimsby and Louth that expanded over two weeks, including 40 girls as we continued to push the women’s game in the local area.
We had visits from Grimsby Town Football Club’s Men’s First Team players who took part in Q&A sessions and also handed out trophies to the skills challenge winners, as well as players’ player and coaches player.
Despite the unkind weather in May, we saw over 130 young kids brave the conditions to keep active during the school holidays, including 22 young budding goalkeepers.
Summer saw the launch of Kellog’s Football Camps, a way to ‘follow in the footsteps of your heroes’.
We welcomed over 350 participants across five different locations across the six-week holidays, the participants getting involved in a wide range of warm-ups, drills and small-sided competitive games.
Participants had multiple visits from First Team players, including Charles Vernam, Lewis Cass, Cam Gardner and Curtis Thompson, who took part in small Q&As as well as got involved with various different activities.
To round off the year, we had 130 participants join us for our October camps in Grimsby, Louth and Immingham.
On the success of last year’s camps and looking ahead to this year’s, Foundation Coach Paul Davies said, “It was incredible to see so many children accessing our holiday courses last year, along with the inception of a girls’ only course, creating an environment where girls feel comfortable and are able to enjoy playing football.
“We are incredibly proud to be offering our holiday camps again this year and we look forward to welcoming participants old and new.
“As with last year, we hope to have some players come down from the Men’s and Women’s First Teams to present trophies, have pictures taken and also take part in Q&As and provide advice to the children to inspire them.”
Our February courses are now available to book and places are going fast, so book now to avoid disappointment.
