Immingham FairPlay Academy Secures Fifth Consecutive Win at FairPlay Relaunch Event

The FairPlay League officially relaunched in style at Clee Field, Grimsby, as Immingham FairPlay Academy celebrated an incredible fifth consecutive tournament victory. The event marked a new era for the FairPlay project, supported by a major funding boost that will ensure its future through 2028 and beyond.

New Funding, New Opportunities

Thanks to comprehensive funding from the National Lottery, North East Lincolnshire Council, and the VPP, the Grimsby Town Foundation is expanding its FairPlay programme across the region.

This investment will enable the Foundation to:

  • Increase the number of FairPlay Academies and sessions delivered locally
  • Launch a new female netball FairPlay League
  • Establish three new Academy locations in the coming months

Football With a Purpose

FairPlay sessions are designed to remove barriers to participation, offering free football opportunities for young people who may not otherwise have access to the sport.

Beyond football, these sessions provide vital educational workshops on key national and local issues, including:

  • Knife crime
  • County lines
  • Internet safety

These workshops aim to equip young participants with the knowledge and confidence to make positive life choices.

New Academy Launch at Grant Thorold Park

As part of the new funding, a FairPlay Academy at Grant Thorold Park is launching this autumn, in partnership with Shall Youth Centre and other local community organisations.

  • Fridays, 5:00pm – 7:00pm

Tournament Highlights

Following the relaunch ceremony, the action began with the first FairPlay tournament of the new season. Grimsby Town Foundation entered four teams — three from the Immingham Academy and one from the West Marsh Academy.

In challenging windy conditions, three teams made it to the semi-finals, showcasing exceptional teamwork and resilience. The final saw Immingham face off against Fusion, with both sides battling fiercely. After a tense penalty shootout, Immingham triumphed — sealing their fifth consecutive FairPlay title.

A huge congratulations to all the players and staff for this outstanding achievement — well done, everyone!
