HOLIDAY ACTIVITY AND FOOD PROGRAMME SUMMER SUCCESS

Grimsby Town Foundation are delighted to announce that we engaged with over 350 local children during our Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme  camps this summer!

We welcomed over 350 local children over 12 days down to Ross Sports Ground in Grimsby to participate in various football and non-football related activities to help keep them active and engaged over the summer holidays.

Our HAF programmes are designed to help those children of families who come from a low-income household and receive benefited free school meals.

These camps are designed to encourage children to keep active and healthy over the holidays, as well as provide a safe space for them and for them to have access to engaging and enriching activities which support the development of resilience, character and wellbeing.

The participants who attended took part in a wide range of activities, with cricket, dodgeball and Zorbball being just a few. Children were also able to play giant games such as Jenga and connect4.

We are very grateful to Grimsby Town First Team defender Doug Tharme who came down to one of our camps. He spoke about the importance of staying active over the school holidays as well as attending similar camps himself growing up.

He also got involved with a bit of archery, which the children loved.

We are also very grateful to the Lincolnshire co-op, who donated £100 worth of vouchers for us to spend in store to supplement the programme and to RWE East Coast director Corrine Barry for donating goody bags for one of our camps.

RWE are the leading power generator for the UK for net zero. In the goody bags, the children received sweets and an airplane which they can build out of foam.

Our impact

Here are some words we received from a parent of someone who attended our HAF programme this summer.

“My nine-year-old daughter attended the summer HAF club through Grimsby town. As a parent who had to have childcare for myself and my husband to work through the holidays, the HAF club was amazing for that. I knew she would get a balanced lunch as well as engaging activities. My daughter absolutely loved going every time and always looked forward to going.

“All the staff who run the club are all welcoming and friendly and have a good rapport with the children. My daughter loved the different activities that were on daily, as someone who struggles with concentration, she engaged really well with all of the activities.”

The Foundation’s Disability and Inclusion Lead, Jason Land, who is the lead coach on the HAF Programme said,”This summer, Grimsby Town Foundation had the privilege of engaging with over 350 individuals from diverse areas within our local community through our Summer 2024 HAF programme. It has been truly inspiring and uplifting to witness so many young people not only having fun but also learning new skills in an inclusive and supportive environment.”
“A particularly exciting development this year has been the significant rise in participants with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) attending our sessions, which is an incredible achievement. This growth is a testament to the inclusivity of our programmes and our ability to support individuals’ needs, enabling everyone to enjoy a wide range of physical activities.
“The positive feedback from both parents and participants highlights the impact of our efforts and encourages us to continue making a difference in our community. We are proud of the progress we’ve made and look forward to building on this success in the future.”

Keep an eye out on our social media for our next HAF camps.
