GRIMSBY TOWN PLAYERS MAKE APPEARANCE AT KELLOGG’S SUMMER CAMP

Grimsby Town Foundation had some very special guests attend our Kellogg’s summer camp at Clee Fields on Tuesday 6th August as we welcomed three members of the Grimsby Town first team.

Charles Vernam, Lewis Cass and Cameron Gardner came down in the afternoon after their training session to interact with the participants and it went down incredibly well.

The players watched on as the children showed them what they had been getting up to that morning, before getting involved in a Q and A where the children asked a variety of questions to get to know the life of a professional footballer in League Two, for example, “how many times a week do you train?” and “What food do you eat on a daily basis?”

Hard questions such as “What team do you actually support”, were also put to the players.

This was the first summer camp held at the new 3G pitches at Clee Playing Fields in Grimsby, and across the three-day camp we welcomed 116 participants from the local and surrounding areas.

Day one was a huge success as we welcomed 64 participants. The morning started off with some ball mastery, with the after-lunch focus being on playing tournament-style matches where plenty of goals were scored.

On Day two, before being surprised by the Grimsby Town first team players, the participants got involved with various games, where they learnt different passing and shooting techniques.

It was Skills Challenge Day on our final day. Each group participated in a range of different challenges, but the fan-favourite was the crossbar challenge. The afternoon concluded with our presentations, where each group coach handed out a ‘coaches player’ award and the participants themselves got to select a ‘players player’, before the winner of the skills challenges were announced to round off a successful three days.

Sports and Education Coach, Robbie Aldrich, who delivered the courses along with the other coaches in the Foundation said, “Overall, the course was a huge success and we saw lots of familiar faces as well as welcomed plenty of new faces!”

“A massive shoutout to the brand-new facility at Clee Fields having excellent indoor facilities, including state of the art changing rooms and two brand new 3G pitches.

“Also, thank you to YMCA Humber for being so welcoming and helpful across the three days we were there.”
