Saturday 14th February marked a fantastic milestone for young people across the local community as Grimsby Town Foundation took over the MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area) at the grand opening of Horizon Youth Zone in Grimsby.

The day was packed with energy, football and celebration, as Foundation coaches delivered a fun-filled takeover designed to showcase both the outstanding new facilities at Horizon Youth Zone and an exciting new chapter for community sport in the area.

Football Takes Over

The MUGA became the hub of activity as coaches from Grimsby Town Foundation facilitated engaging football sessions throughout the day. Young people were given the opportunity to get involved, test their skills and enjoy the game in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

The event not only highlighted the incredible opportunities now available at Horizon Youth Zone, but also introduced the Foundation’s plans to deliver regular football sessions at the venue moving forward.

The aim was simple: create a safe and supportive space where young people can enjoy sport, build confidence, develop skills and, most importantly, have fun.

Weekly Football Sessions Coming Soon

As part of this exciting new partnership, Grimsby Town Foundation will deliver weekly football sessions at Horizon Youth Zone, funded through the Premier League’s Premier League Kicks programme.

Premier League Kicks uses the power of football and sport to inspire young people, helping them reach their potential both on and off the pitch through structured coaching, teamwork development and positive mentorship.

Session Details:

  • Mondays | 17:30 – 19:30
    Ages 8-12

  • Wednesdays | 18:30 – 19:30
    Ages 12-18

These sessions are designed to provide positive opportunities for young people in a safe, engaging environment, strengthening both individual development and community connections.

A Special FA Cup Experience At Blundell Park

The celebrations continued beyond the grand opening weekend. In partnership with Grimsby Town, staff and young participants from Horizon Youth Zone were invited to attend the Emirates FA Cup fixture at Blundell Park, where the Mariners faced Wolverhampton Wanderers.

For many, it was a first experience of attending a major cup tie, with the electric atmosphere providing a memorable backdrop. At half-time, the growing partnership between Horizon Youth Zone and Grimsby Town Foundation was proudly celebrated on the pitch, a symbolic moment marking the start of what promises to be a powerful collaboration for the community.

Building A Brighter Future Through Sport

This partnership represents far more than football sessions. It is about creating opportunity, strengthening local ties and ensuring young people in Grimsby have access to positive activities that support their growth and wellbeing.

With first-class facilities at Horizon Youth Zone and the experience and community reach of Grimsby Town Foundation, the future looks incredibly bright for grassroots football in the area.
