Last week we delivered Anti-bullying workshops across our priority schools as part of the Anti-bullying Alliance’s Anti-bullying week.

This year’s theme was ‘Choose Respect’, as teachers and children across the UK wanted a theme that empowered them to do something positive to counter the harm and hurt that bullying causes.

Sports and Education Coach Libby Durkin delivered the ‘Reaching Out’ Premier League Primary Stars workshops, with a focus on the difference between banter and bullying and different ways of ‘Reaching Out’.

The workshops included learning about the definition of bullying, the difference between joking, banter and bullying and how to reach out to someone if you feel you are being bullied.

Every class created a ‘Class Kindness Jar.’ This was an activity designed to get the pupils thinking about different words/phrases you can use to show kindness towards others. Every pupil wrote something down and places it in a jar before the end of the workshop.

On the importance of delivering these workshops, Sports and Education Coach, Libby Durkin, said “At Grimsby Town Foundation, we have been able to highlight that bullying can be a common issue within our local schools and community.

“By creating anti-bullying resources and collaborating with the Premier League, we have been able to deliver interactive workshops in order to reduce this.

“We feel as though these themes are important to deliver within our partner schools, so we can open children’s eyes to the severity of these issues and how they can help themselves and the people close to them.”

Odd Socks Day

During the same week, the Anti-bullying Alliance held Odd Socks Day for the eighth year in a row and is designed to encourage everyone to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and uniqueness in a simple way.

Our coaches at Grimsby Town Foundation wore their odd socks to work, which allowed conversations to be generated in schools and at the evening sessions.

If you experience bullying, whether that’s at school, in the workplace or anywhere, talk to a trusted adult; this could be a family member or a teacher at school.
